Best Solar Panel Brands in Malaysia 2026: How to Choose

Rows of solar panels under a blue sky

No single brand is best for every roof. JinkoSolar, LONGi, Trina Solar and JA Solar were the four largest panel makers in the world by 2025 shipments. For a home, compare the warranty, the efficiency and the temperature coefficient on the datasheet, not the name alone.

Is There a Best Solar Panel Brand?

Not one that suits every roof. The well-known makers sell panels with similar performance. What differs is the warranty, the price and how well the panel fits your roof.

This guide names the largest makers, explains what "Tier 1" means, and lists what to compare.

The Largest Panel Makers

Shipments show who the industry buys from. In InfoLink's ranking of 2025 module shipments:

  • JinkoSolar and LONGi shared first place
  • Trina Solar and JA Solar shared third place
  • Canadian Solar was also in the top ten

The top four supplied about 58% of the panels in the ranking.

Size is not quality. It does suggest the maker will still be around to honour a long warranty.

What "Tier 1" Really Means

You will see "Tier 1" in many quotations. The term comes from a list kept by BloombergNEF.

The list is about bankability. A maker is on it when banks have financed large solar projects that use its panels. It does not test or rank the quality of the panels.

So "Tier 1" is a useful first filter, and no more than that. Two Tier 1 panels can still differ in efficiency and warranty.

Five Things to Compare on the Datasheet

Every panel has a datasheet. Ask for it, and look at these.

  1. Product warranty. It covers defects in the panel itself, and it is stated in years.
  2. Performance warranty. It promises a minimum output after a number of years, often 25.
  3. Efficiency. A more efficient panel makes more power from the same area. It matters most on a small roof.
  4. Temperature coefficient. Panels lose some output as they heat up. In Malaysia's heat, a figure closer to zero is better.
  5. Cell type. TOPCon cells made up almost 95% of shipments among the ranked makers in 2025. An older PERC panel is not a fault, but ask why it is offered.

Do Not Forget the Inverter

The inverter decides how much of the panels' power reaches your home. It is also the part most likely to need replacing. Ask for its brand, model and warranty too.

A good panel with a poor inverter is a poor system. Our guide on how solar panels work explains what the inverter does.

Local Support Matters

A 25-year warranty is only useful if someone answers the claim. Ask who handles a warranty claim in Malaysia: the installer, a local distributor or the maker.

Ask the same of the installer. Our guide to choosing a solar installer lists what to check.

Which Panels Does SolarKita Install?

Ask us which panel and inverter are in your quotation, and for their datasheets. Our Family Plus and Premium Max packages carry a 25-year panel warranty.

How to Choose in Three Steps

  1. Shortlist panels from large, established makers
  2. Compare the warranty, the efficiency and the temperature coefficient
  3. Check who supports the warranty locally

Then compare prices. A cheaper panel with a shorter warranty is not always the better buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best solar panel brand in Malaysia?

There is no single best brand. JinkoSolar, LONGi, Trina Solar and JA Solar were the four largest makers by 2025 shipments. Compare the warranty, efficiency and temperature coefficient of the exact model you are offered.

What does Tier 1 solar panel mean?

It means the maker is on BloombergNEF's Tier 1 list, which is based on bankability: banks have financed large projects using its panels. It is not a test of panel quality.

Are JinkoSolar and LONGi panels good?

Both are among the world's largest panel makers; they shared first place in InfoLink's 2025 shipment ranking. Judge the specific model by its datasheet and warranty.

Does panel efficiency matter for a house?

Mostly on a small roof. A more efficient panel makes more power from the same area, so you need fewer panels for the same system size.

How long is a solar panel warranty?

There are two. The product warranty covers defects. The performance warranty promises a minimum output after a number of years, often 25. Check both on the datasheet.
