Solar panels lower a Malaysian home's electricity bill and earn a cash rebate until the end of 2026. They run for 25 years with little upkeep and produce clean power from the roof. They do not bring the bill to zero, do not run the home in a blackout without a battery, and take years to pay back.
Six Benefits You Can Count
Solar panels are sold with a long list of benefits. These six hold for a home in Peninsular Malaysia, with the figures the site uses.
A lower electricity bill. Power your home uses in the daytime never reaches the meter. What is left goes to the grid and comes back as a credit against the energy charge under Solar ATAP. We estimate RM200 to RM350 a month for a 4 kW system and RM400 to RM600 for an 8 kW system.
A cash rebate, for now. The SuRIA Home rebate pays RM600 per kWac, up to RM3,000, for systems commissioned by 31 December 2026. TNB pays it into your bank account.
A long life. The panels we install carry a performance warranty of up to 25 years. The saving continues long after the system has paid for itself.
Little upkeep. No moving parts. Rain washes off most of the dust, a rinse now and then does the rest, and a yearly inspection covers the connections and the inverter. Our maintenance guide has the routine.
Power from your own roof. Every unit you make is a unit you do not buy. If tariffs rise, each unit saves more.
Clean power. Sunlight in, electricity out, with no fuel burned at your home.
How Long Solar Panels Last
Panels have no moving parts, so there is little to wear out. A performance warranty of up to 25 years promises a minimum output at the end of that period. Before that, output falls only a little each year.
The inverter works harder and has a shorter warranty, 5 to 10 years depending on the model. Plan for one replacement during the life of the system. A battery, if you have one, wears out before the panels do.

Four Limits a Sales Pitch Leaves Out
It will not bring the bill to zero. You still buy electricity at night, and credits offset the energy charge only.
It will not run the home in a blackout. An on-grid inverter switches off when the grid is down, to protect people repairing the lines. Backup needs a battery and a hybrid inverter, which cost more.
It takes years to pay back. By our estimate, most homes recover the cost in four to six years. A home that is empty all day takes longer, because exported power is worth less than power used directly.
It needs the right roof and the right account. You have to own an unshaded roof, and Solar ATAP and SuRIA Home are for TNB customers in Peninsular Malaysia. Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan have their own schemes.
Benefits That Depend on You
Two homes with the same system can save different amounts. The one that runs the washing machine, the water heater and the air conditioning in the daytime saves more. A system sized to that daytime use pays back faster than an oversized one, because unused credits end with the month.
Clean panels and a weekly look at the monitoring app keep the output where it should be.
Is It Worth It for Your Home?
The benefits are real, and so are the limits. Whether the sum works depends on your bill, your daytime use and your roof. Our guide on whether solar is worth it shows how to work it out in three steps, and the payback calculation gives two worked examples.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main benefit of solar panels?
A lower electricity bill. Power your home uses in the daytime never reaches the meter, and exported power earns a credit under Solar ATAP. We estimate RM200 to RM900 a month depending on system size.
What is the average lifespan of solar panels?
The panels we install carry a performance warranty of up to 25 years, and output falls only a little each year. The inverter has a shorter warranty, 5 to 10 years, and is usually replaced once in that time.
Do solar panels reduce the electricity bill to zero?
No. You still buy electricity at night, and Solar ATAP credits offset the energy charge only. Solar lowers the bill; it does not remove it.
How much maintenance do solar panels need?
Little. Rain clears most dust, a rinse now and then does the rest, and a yearly inspection checks the connections and the inverter. Our maintenance visits start from RM300.
Are solar panels still worth it after the SuRIA Home rebate ends?
The rebate shortens the payback by up to RM3,000. Without it the payback is longer, but the saving on the bill is the same. Ask us to work out the sum for your home.
